Recruiting Travelers

One question that I get asked a lot..."how do you spread the word about your tours?"  Below you will find methods I have used in the past to advertise my tours and share information with prospective travelers.  Pick and choose what works best for you. This is just a very limited list, there are tons of great ideas for advertising your tour.  Remember to only use the methods that are allowed by your school administration.
Nomination Letter.  I ask other teachers in my department to nominate students who would be great candidates to travel on an EF Tour.  I send each student on their list a letter about the tour, and an invitation to my upcoming information meeting.

Mass E-mail.  Send an e-mail to all the parents of students enrolled in your classes.  Let them know about your tour and the upcoming information meeting.  Be sure to copy and paste the link to your tour website.

Bathroom Fliers.  I create fliers with tear-off tabs, and hang them in all the bathrooms right near the mirrors.  Usually all the little information tabs disappear with in a day or two.  I like this idea, because the students can tear off the small information tab that has the tour website and check it out later. Click here to see what my flier looked like.

School News/Announcements.  Take advantage of your school's news or announcements.  I create a power point slide that plays on the school's weekly news broadcast.  If your school/district sends out a newsletter, request to add information about your trip.

Business cards.  I create small business cards that have information about the tour, my tour website link, upcoming information meeting and contact information.  I keep some of those cards in my purse, desk and often in my pockets.  Usually a student will stop me in the hallway and ask about the upcoming trip.  I just hand them one of the cards that have all the information they will to find out more, and hopefully sign up for my tour.

Posters.  Simple, tried and true.  It doesn't get any more simple than hanging a poster in the hallway.  Use those posters that EF sent to you, and hang them in high traffic areas.  Include your contact information so that interested students can inquire about your tour.  Didn't get any posters, call your Tour Consultant to request that some be sent to you.  *One more tip...I create a QR code for my tour web site, and blow it up to about the size of 1/2 sheet of paper.  I glue the QR code on the poster and then laminate it before I hang them up on the wall.

Banners.  I order large, customized banners (3 feet x 6 feet) online and hang them in the common areas of my school, where I know that the students will see them.  A few key elements that I include on the banners:  A beautiful background of the destination, the location, tour web site link, my room number.  On a side note, I have a pocket file outside of my classroom door where I keep tour information for anyone who stops by.
